Good retention is never down to one magic trick. It comes from a well-chosen set, careful application, your natural lash cycle and simple everyday habits. These five points matter most.
1. Choose a set that suits your natural lashes
Length, curl and volume should be balanced with the strength and density of your own lashes. A heavier set is not automatically more durable. A design that suits your lashes usually feels better and grows out more evenly.
2. Arrive with a clean eye area
Come without eye makeup and avoid heavy creams or oily products close to the lash line before your appointment. This makes it easier to prepare the natural lashes properly.
3. Clean your extensions gently and regularly
Avoiding water altogether is not good lash care. Gentle cleansing helps remove sebum, makeup and daily build-up. The key is to wash without rubbing or pulling.
- clean the lashes gently as recommended,
- pat the eye area dry rather than rubbing,
- brush the lashes with a clean spoolie when dry,
- do not pick at extensions that have grown out.
4. Follow the aftercare for the products used on you
Adhesives and treatment systems are not all identical, so the advice for the first hours after an appointment can vary. Follow the instructions given by your lash artist for that particular set.
5. Do not leave infills too late
Your natural lashes are continuously renewing, so the set will gradually become lighter even when everything has been done correctly. Many clients find that an infill every 2–3 weeks keeps the result looking the most even.
How long can the full set remain?
You may still have extensions after 3–5 weeks, but the set will naturally be less full by then. If you prefer a polished, consistent lash line, regular infills usually make more sense than waiting for most of the extensions to shed.
